'Why do I need a tooth extraction?'
An extraction needs to be carried out when the available options to save a tooth do not align with yours needs.
Reasons could be a broken tooth, insufficient support of bone, or a considerable infection making a root canal treatment not a viable option.
The intended benefits of removing a tooth are the removal of pain, infection, and swelling.
'Why do I need a surgical tooth extraction?'
A surgical extraction is carried out when a tooth has become impacted with another tooth under the gum level making it hard to remove it.
We might have to perform a surgical extraction when a simple extraction is not possible.
Typically, this may be related to the removal of wisdom tooth/teeth but can occur, for example when a tooth breaks off during a simple extraction.
Other reasons could be due to a tooth being broken at your gum level, or having a complex shape, making it hard to extract normally.
